About The Painting

If we travel back to the days of the 1940's With its struggles for freedom and human stories of bravery That capture the imagination, one story stands out. The story of Major Glenn Miller whose music influenced a generation and lives on With the big band sound even today.

This print "Sentimental Journey" by noted Artist Steve Harper tells the Glenn Miller story.

The scene is set at Twinwood Control tower in Bedfordshire, now home to the Glenn Miller museum and lovingly restored to its former glory. Standing by the jeep is John Miller (Glenn's nephew) who carries the music his uncle composed, with the John Miller Orchestra. In the foreground is Glenn Miller. Note his shoulder rank is Captain; the rank he was allocated on joining the services. At the time of his loss he was raised to the rank of Major. This brings us to the aircraft flying over the control tower, a "Norseman" in which Major Miller was declared "Missing in Action" over the channel on rout to France.

Major Miller may have been lost to us but his music lives on and the spirit of the glamour and drama of the Fabulous 40's lives on as a captured moment in time for All to enjoy with this very special painting by Artist Steve Harper.
